At long last the County Council is to tackle the dangerous situation along the Shooting Field access road to Steyning Grammar and Primary Schools
It really is years since I first tried to get action to overcome the danger of careless drivers mounting the pavement to exit the schools site to avoid waiting a few moments to let cars enter the site pass parked cars on the other side of the road. Over the year’s groups of local parents, the Primary School Governors, the local Police, Traffic Engineers and the Safe Routes to School County Council Team have all been heavily involved in trying different schemes to improve safety along this access road.
The County Council will now be consulting on a Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) to make a permanent TRO that will introduce new lengths of single yellow line and double yellow line on parts of Shooting Field in Steyning, near the entrance to Steyning Grammar and Steyning Primary Schools. The proposals set out in the Order are part of a traffic scheme that would also install bollards on the north side of the east/west section of Shooting Field leading to the school top prevent driving on the pavement.
Hopefully the many years of working with others for a safety scheme to protect children and parents walking to school will soon be over with the scheme introduced before the start of the new school year in September.Leave a comment
