The date of the by-election for Storrington following the sudden death of Frank Wilkinson) has now been arranged for 26 September.
This will no doubt be a closely fought contest on a number of local issues, but the continuing heavy traffic through the Town will be significant one of these.
As previously reported, the Government has announced financial support for improvements to the A27 through West Sussex, but whilst actual works are proposed for the route around Chichester, only further reviews are planned for Arundel and Worthing/Lancing. This is simply not good enough for Storrington or Steyning/Upper Beeding which will continue to suffer from rat running traffic avoiding the traffic jams on the A27 at Arundel and Worthing/Lancing.
The Tories appear to be satisfied with what is on offer for the A27, but whoever is successful in Storrington must be committed to continue to fight for a better deal at County Hall on the A27 (no toeing the Party line on this if it is another Tory). Of the likely other candidates, however, the best bet for Storrington would be the Lib Dems as they already have a track record of influencing the County Hall Tories on taking local action on the A27.Leave a comment
