Report by Stephen Lloyd, Lib Dem MP for Eastbourne.
“One of the most dreadful government decisisons since the coalition has been to try and remove people with mental health problems from being able to get the higher mobility rate as part of their PIP disability benefit.
This was a shoddy attempt to save money off the backs of people with mental health issues, so I was glad to see that justice was done when the court found against the DWP. However when I challenged the disabilities minister on this her answer was somewhat bizarre; firstly she replied that it was the ‘Lib Dem’ Lord Freud who had implanted this in Coalition when of course he was actually a Conservative Peer. And the mental health element was NOT introduced during the coalition as we would have vetoed it, but was another one of the cuts introduced by the not terribly lemented George Osborne after 2015.
The minister also failed to address how her government’s decision had treated people with mental health conditions deplorably, having to go through losing their entitlement. Not very edifying frankly!”Leave a comment
