Derek Deedman worked in local government from 1964 until retirement in 1997. He was an Adur District Councillor (1976-1984, 1986-1990) and District Council Chairman from 1981 to 1983. Elected to represent the Steyning Division of West Sussex County Council in 2001, he was re-elected to represent the Bramber Castle Division in both 2005 and 2009. He retired from the County Council in 2013.
As a County Councillor, Derek was Chairman of the Regulation, Audit and Accounts Committee and was also a member of the West Sussex Learning Difficulties Partnership Board. Derek has been asked to stay as a member of the Partnership Board following his retirement as an ordinary member. Outside his council roles, he was a member of the Steyning & District Community Partnership Board.
He was the Parliamentary Candidate for Arundel & South Downs constituency in 2001, 2005 & 2010, increasing the Lib Dem share of the vote each time.
His special interests are highways, public transport, finance and waste matters.
He is a Chartered Public Finance Accountant. He is married to Ros and they have three children (he also has two children and a grandson by a previous marriage) and a step-grandson . His hobbies are ten-pin bowling, keeping canaries and politics.
